Overview
Jimei University (JMU), one of the key universities located in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, is a multi-disciplined university. It is jointly constructed by the Ministry of Transport,the Ministry of Natural Resources,the Fujian Provincial Government and the Xiamen Municipal Government. The university started with the Teacher's Department of Jimei School founded in 1918 by the famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader, Chen Jiageng (Tan Kah-Kee), and the Fisheries Department、Business Department of Jimei School founded in 1920. It has a history of 104 years. Its motto “Sincerity and Perseverance” is a precious spiritual heritage handed down by Tan Kah Kee, It has formed the characteristics and advantages of marine-oriented disciplines such as navigation and fishery, which has undergone a long and glorious history and enjoys great fame far and wide.

2. Scholarship funding quota 20 undergraduate students, 25 graduate students(together with Xiamen University,Huaqiao University,Xiamen University of Technology), 5 doctoral students(together with Xiamen University,Huaqiao University).The final funding quota will be adjusted by the Tan Kah Kee scholarship leading group according to the actual application.
3. Funding Criteria The scholarship covers such expenses as tuition, accommodation allowance, teaching materials, insurances, and living expenses. The granted amount should be determined by the degree levels and categories of the applicant. 3.1. Doctoral degree students: 70,000RMB/person/academic year, granted for 3 to 4 years. 3.2.Master’s degree students: 60,000RMB/person/academic year, granted for 2 or 3 years 3.3 Bachelor’s degree students:50,000RMB/person/academic year, granted for 4 or 5 years
4. Entry Requirements 4.1. Applicants should be descendants of the overseas Chinese and Chinese descendants from countries along the Maritime Silk Road who are in favor of the “One China” policy, friendly to China and in good health. 4.2. Applicants should abide by the laws and regulations of Chinese government and meet the admission requirements of the relevant school. 4.3. Educational background and age limits (as of September 1, 2023): 4.3.1.Bachelor's programs: hold a high school diploma or above and be under the age of 30; 4.3.2.Master's programs: hold a bachelor's degree or above and be under the age of 35; 4.3.3.Doctoral programs: hold a master's degree or above and be under the age of 40.
4.4. language proficiency requirements for degree programs Applicants for programs taught in Chinese should achieve International Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) band 4 or above, and within the validity period. Applicants who have finished their highest diploma completely in Chinese are exempted from proof of Chinese Language Proficiency Test, but they must present a medium-of-instruction certificate.
4.5 In accordance with Article 5 of the Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China, a person whose parents are both Chinese citizens and have both settled abroad, or one of whose parents is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad, shall not have Chinese citizenship if he or she has acquired foreign citizenship at birth. If such a person applies to study in a bachelor’s degree program at JMU as an international student, in addition to meeting the University’s all other application requirements, he or she is required to have held a valid foreign passport for at least 4 years and have actually resided in a foreign country for at least 2 years in the past 4 years (as of April 30, 2023) (9 months of residence in a foreign country counts as a full year). The dates of the entry and exit stamps in the passport will be followed in the determination of the actual length of foreign residence. This requirement is also applicable to residents of the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macao who have emigrated to a foreign country and obtained foreign citizenship and are applying to study in a bachelor's degree program at JMU as international students.
4.6 Only after being officially recognized by the Division of Exit and Entry Administration of Public Security Bureau as foreign citizens, can foreign citizens of Chinese origin apply for Residence Permit in China and register their academic records as international students.
4.7.Awardees of other scholarships should not be granted Tan Kah Kee scholarship.

7. Application Materials 7.1. Application Form for Tan Kah Kee Scholarship with handwritten signature from the applicant.
7.2. A Letter of Reference from Overseas Chinese Associations or Overseas Chinese Celebrity of the Home Country to certify that the applicants are overseas Chinese and Chinese descendants. Students from Hongkong, Macau and Taiwai region should submit a Letter of Reference from Local Jimei Alumni Associations or Xiamen Jimei Alumni Associations to certify that the applicants are the descendants of Jimei alumni.
7.3. Foreigner Physical Examination Form.

8. Scholarship Assessment The assessment of the scholarship will be carried out under the principle of ‘openness, fairness, justness and merit-based selection. Our university will take the applicant's academic performance, language level, academic ability, recommendation letter and comprehensive quality into consideration, and select merit scholarship candidates, and then submit the candidates list to Tan Kah Kee Scholarship Leading Group. After centralized review, the Group determines the final awardees. The results of the scholarship are expected to be determined and published on the websites of Jimei School Committee as well as our admissions website in mid-to-late July. The awardees will receive an official email notification from our university.
